why Ecological

Once established, ecological methods will give you a beautiful yard that is resistant to pests and drought and requires less maintenance. Ecological methods help restore health and bring the environment into balance.

For example, our practice is to keep the leaves in the garden beds all year. This provides free mulch and critical habitat for smaller organsims like native bees, fireflies, butterfly larvae and earthworms. As leaves break down, the natural process forms compost, improving soil health and increasing the biodiversity. We leave flower stalks and stems standing in the autumn through late spring to provide critical food and shelter for native birds, butterflies, bees and bugs, helping them to survive the winter.
